A general reminder - increasingly our courses give you opportunities to create content that would be very easy for you to save onto a USB memory stick. If you have one, please remember to bring it along to your next course.

The following courses (taken from the 'pin-me-up' sheet circulated in the latest copy of Ox-On-Line) have places available. If you would like to attend please apply to the Inset section at Cricket Road or online at: http://intranet.oxfordshire.gov.uk/links/intranet/oqsaapply

Thursday 18 October (one day) Spreadsheet Modelling for the Terrified 21/788

If you are interested in ANY of these courses please book as above or telephone Christine Ruane for further details (01865 428034)

ICT Area Meetings

A reminder of the upcoming ICT Area Meetings, please try to ensure that someone is able represent your school at one of these meetings:

o Tuesday 30th October, 16:00-17:30 at Queen's Dyke, Witney

o Wednesday 31st October, 16:00-17:30 at The Cricket Road Centre, Oxford

o Wednesday 31st October, 16:00-17:30 at Fir Tree, Wallingford

o Wednesday 31st October, 16:00-17:30 at Bicester Community College

o Thursday 1st November, 16:00-17:30 at The Grange, Banbury

These meetings provide an opportunity for schools to meet with ICT Team staff, network and find out about the latest innovations and opportunities available within Oxfordshire. The meetings also provide a time to discuss any national initiatives as well as providing an opportunity for staff to feed back to the ICT Team ideas and requests so that we can tailor our provision to match your needs. Upcoming training sessions and competition opportunities are also regularly shared at these meetings.

The area meetings are open to ANY member of staff, they are free to attend and you can choose which meeting you wish to attend. Bookings can be made by phone with Christine Ruane (01865 428034); these bookings are only to ensure we provide enough handouts for the group.

These meetings provide an important opportunity for schools to link up and also to establish a dialogue with the ICT team so please try and send someone along to represent your school.

ICTOPUS

In this week's ICTOPUS children use digital cameras in a Year 1 Geography activity to record features of the local area which are then displayed for use in the classroom.

In the Year 3 English activity children create a storyboard using on-line versions of Aesop's fables.

Year 4 children are challenged to deduce the rule that generates certain totals in a 3x3 grid using the numbers 1-9. A spreadsheet file is included in this zipped resource.

The Year 6 Science activity this week uses the activity on Interdependence and adaptation from the BBC Science clips website to introduce the concept of a food web. A recording sheet for children is included in this zipped resource.

You can download the activities from http://www.ictopus.org.uk

Best wishes,

The ICT Advisory Team
