Ordnance Survey

If you have not visited the Ordnance Survey website recently it is worth primary colleagues checking it out to access the free Map Reading made Easy Peasy and the free flash cards of map symbols.

Secondary colleagues may be inspired by the document Teaching with Free Maps or the Fantasy Expedition.

Ordnance Survey is now providing a selection of free, downloadable, basic small-scale maps of Great Britain for you to use for your own purposes. GB outlines with and without administrative boundaries are downloadable for use in word processing, presentation or graphics applications.

There are a selection of games and puzzles where pupils can test their knowledge of geography, such as Paintball, Antarctic Adventure, Treasure Hunt and Sea Adventure, as well as a GIS section and a Homework area. All of the site is supported by information for teachers.

Videoconference Opportunity

A beginners guide to Videoconferencing course is running for a half day on Wednesday 4th July. Part of the session will link with the Natural History Museum in London to observe a live conference take place. We would like to invite a school to join this session so that the course can see a school in Oxfordshire participate in the session. The session being ran by the NHM is called Circadian Sam. Circadian Sam has a problem - she isn't sure if it's day or night. Luckily, she knows lots about the features that enable animals to live in their particular environment. Meet her in the galleries and help her sort out which animals should be asleep and which should be awake. The learning themes of this conference will focus on variation, animals in the local environment, habitats. Further details can be downloaded at: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/education/activities/school-activities/schools-programme/assets/spring%20school%20programme.pdf If your school would be interested in taking part in this please contact through email: anna.foreman@oxfordshire.gov.uk

ITP Tutorials

These tutorials have been taken from the Keys to Learning in literacy and mathematics pack. Keys to learning is a DVD and booklet package that supports teachers in making links between their own use of ICT to support teaching and children's use of ICT to support their learning. The tutorials give a basic guide to using the ITPs within your classroom.
