Electrifying Music
The Paul Hamlyn foundation has just published a new guide to using ICT in music education Electrifying Music. It is available as a free download from their website. "Electrifying Music" is a report by David Ashworth for Musical Futures and it examines the issues surrounding using technology effectively in the teaching and learning of music, addresses the challenges that using ICT poses, reports on current good practice, and surveys potential sources of support for music teachers.
The report also explores current technology and the ways in which it can enhance
the teaching of music, as well as looking at how technology can enable students
to become more flexible, independent learners. The report is available for download

Podium Podcasting Opportunity
The Oxfordshire ICT team are hoping to pilot Podium Podcasting software produced by Softease with a small group of primary schools and a secondary school. You will be given the opportunity to use Podium software to create your own school podcasts. In order to take part in this pilot you will need to be available to attend a twilight training session on Thursday 29th March 2007 from 4.00pm onwards. All schools involved will be given the opportunity to have use of the software after the pilot has run until the end of the summer term. If you would be interested in taking part in this podcasting pilot please contact the ICT team as soon as possible by phone on 10865 428034 or by e-mail on sds.ict.education@oxfordshire.gov.uk to register your interest.
Videoconference Opportunity
The MLA (Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) is planning a series of videoconferences for schools on Wednesday 28 March to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of Slavery by Parliament. The programme is currently fairly fluid but will certainly include contributions from a variety of experts across the UK and they are looking for contributions from schools that have approached the topic in an interesting way. The day will include a contribution from David Lammy, Minister for Culture and they plan to hold one conference for KS2 pupils from 10.00 to 11.00, another for KS3 pupils from 11.00 to 12.00 and a third for KS4 pupils from 14.00 to 15.00. This is subject to change in the short term but will become fixed very quickly.
If you would like to be kept informed of the programme as it evolves, please email Roger Bloxham at Roger.Bloxham@HEARTOFLONDON.ORG or the UK Videoconferencing Services Project at VCSP@JISCMAIL.AC.UK and you will be added to a circulation list. There is no need to commit your school yet, unless you would like to make a formal contribution.
