Internet Safety
With the current debate about children's use of social networking sites, I think we will all agree that it is important to empower parents to take an active interest and support their children in their use of the Internet. You will be pleased to hear therefore that the 'Know IT All for Parents' CD-rom includes advice on a range of issues including, social networking, music downloading, mobiles, and chatting etc. There is also a special family agreement section where families can design and print off their own family agreement.
You can find out more about the Childnet 'Know IT All' suite of resources, - including sample video clips on the Parent's area at: http://www.childnet-int.org/kia
(Note that this micro site only contains a few examples of what is on the CD and there is a huge section on the benefits of the Internet for families, which is only on the CD).
EPals
A reminder that the e-pals conference is still up and running! If you are interested in setting up an e-mail link with another school within the OCN, then use the e-pals conference to post a message saying which year group you teach, how many pupils you have and any other information to help you find a suitable school/class to match up with. The e-pals conference can be found by logging in to the OCN, clicking on everyone, selecting the ICT Curriculum Conference and within there is the e-pals sub-conference. Please do contact the ICT team if you need any help in finding the e-pals conference.
PRIMARY
Interactive Maths Challenge
The ICT Team, working in collaboration with the Maths Team, will be promoting an interactive Maths Challenge during early November. Aimed at pupils in Key Stage 2, the challenge will be accessed through a dedicated Digitalbrain community and will present pupils with a number of challenges over a one-week period. A major corporate sponsor has agreed to provide prizes for the winners of the challenge so mark the dates Thursday 9th November to Monday 20th November in your diary.
More details will follow in due course but if you think you would like to take part you will need to get your pupils logged in to Digitalbrain so that they can be added to the Maths Challenge Community in time for the competition.
Please do contact the ICT Team if you need any help doing this.
