CEOP Launch ThinkuKnow Campaign
This week a new nationwide education programme aimed at helping children to stay safe online has been launched by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). Police, child protection specialists, social services and teachers will deliver a series of workshops and talks throughout the UK as part of the ThinkuKnow campaign. Children will also have access to an online police facility, which will allow them to report any instances of abuse. The website can be found at: http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/
A CEOP spokesman said: "The web is a great place to have fun and meet new people and millions of children across the UK are online every day chatting, social networking and playing interactive games."
National Poetry Day Competition
With National Poetry day this week schools are starting to send in their poems about Identity to the Competition's email address.
This year the prize in each category is an Avermedia 130 Visualiser, which is truly a fantastic prize and is something that every teacher will want to enrich learning and teaching in their class in conjunction with their SMART board and projector
For further details, please see the flier on the ICT website http://www.ict.oxon-lea.gov.uk/poetryday06/index.html or contact us at the ICT office.
The closing date for the competition is Friday 20th October.
Good Luck!!!
Love Reading
Lovereading4schools has been designed to help teachers develop specific, individual and personalised reading lists of books that children can enjoy. The site's reading lists cover Year 3 to Year 9 and beyond. Schools can also create their own personalised homepage on which teachers can build and feature reading lists that can be accessed by parents.
Some of the site features include:
· Downloadable extracts from the book
· Comments about the book and its contents
· Information about the author
· Age range
To access the website and its features you need to register your school and you will be able to access all of the site's information. Parents are also able to register.

Interactive Maths Challenge
The ICT Team, working in collaboration with the Maths Team, will be promoting an interactive Maths Challenge during early November. Aimed at pupils in Key Stage 2, the challenge will be accessed through a dedicated Digitalbrain community and will present pupils with a number of challenges over a one week period. A major corporate sponsor has agreed to provide prizes for the winners of the challenge so mark the dates Thursday 9th November to Monday 20th November in your diary.
More details will follow in due course but if you think you would like to take part you will need to get your pupils logged in to Digitalbrain so that they can be added to the Maths Challenge Community in time for the competition.
